Richard Nixon was a member of the Republican Party and the President of the United States from 1969 to 1974. He was elected in 1968, defeating the Democrat candidate Hubert Humphrey, with Spiro Agnew as his Vice President.
He previously ran in 1964 against JFK and then lost due to a combination of factors including , but not limited to, Eisenhower’s reluctance to endorse him, his lack of charm and personality, and his unappealing appearance on the TV debate.
He was known to be paranoid, inconsistent, and generally a bit mental.
How was Richard Nixon Elected?
Nixon won the 1968 election on the basis of ‘restoring conservative social policies’ and challenging Johnson’s ‘Great Society’. There were many different things which all contributed to his victory:
